Mona is a Westsail 32 kit, built in California from a bare hull over 7 years in the 1970’s and 1980’s. “Mona” was the builder’s imaginary childhood friend. Rachel and her partner bought Mona in Florida in 2012 and sailed her to Texas for a major DIY refit. Since then, they’ve explored the Atlantic coast of the US from Texas to Maine. They like to travel slow, sleep well, and spend plenty of time hiking, biking, and meeting locals ashore. As of 2018, they are living aboard in Boston, MA, planning their next move. They welcome visitors and can be found on Couchsurfing and WarmShowers.
Rachel and her male partner Woody have lived aboard and traveled by sail since 2009. Starting out on a wooden Dickerson ketch and a 26 foot Aleutka pocket cruiser before pooling their money to purchase their current boat, Mona.
